I'm New Here...
A First-Timer's Guide To CPI
What can CPI do for me?
DJ Mixes as far as the eyes can see
A huge chunk of this site is DJ mixes. Awesome awesome DJ mixes. There are some experimental sound works that I've done thrown in the mix too.
But it is mostly mixes of all sorts. Mixes for dancing, mixes for chilling, mixes for relaxation, mixes for focus.
An MP3 blog for the busy music fan
Want to keep an edge on new music, but don't have time to work through the ever increasing stream of new sounds? Just follow my lead and each week I will reveal my favourite new discoveries.
I have a system in place, sorting things in to 8 genres, allowing you to browse new music based upon your mood and situation.
Each release is a single easy-to-download ZIP file, and all tracks are separate, so get right in there and delete genres you dislike and tracks that don't do anything for you.
The aim here is to get you to realize that there is always amazing new music that you will love, and it doesn't have to be hard to find it. Just give me a few minutes each week and quickly sift through the new MP3s. You will find many new sounds that will improve your life. We have been going strong since late 2007.
The ultimate DJ for any application
CPI can bring her talents to any type of event.
She has rocked the club nights, festivals, after-hours parties, raves and bush parties.
She sets the mood for art shows, performance exhibitions, dance exhibitions, chill rooms, bath houses and private lounges.
But she also has done many corporate gigs, private birthday parties, academic conferences, weddings and more.
Can't CPI do something a bit more... sundry?
Yes!! Years of emails have revealed that some people enjoy having sex to some of the mixes, and some enjoy getting high to some of the mixes. I endorse neither sex nor drugs!
I receive the most sex emails about these mixes:
- You, My Mirror
- Head In The Clouds
- ineedaghostship
- Rock Out With Your Cock Out
- The Venus Envy Mixtape
And people get bombed and listen to:
- City Hearts Aimed Skyward
- Chinchillin'
- Libations For The Gods
- Monastic Deathcore
What I do endorse is studying hard. People tell me they enjoy studying/writing papers with these mixes:
- Robots Are People Too 1, 2 and 3
- Nothing Always Happens
And if you are a gym person, you might like these for your workouts:
- Particle 0000 0001
- Give Me Cyborg Love
- Live at Soulselecta, 2009-11-28
- Live at Toronto Pride, 2008-06-28
How can I book CPI?
Just email me at thetastates@gmail.com. I am interested in all types of events, and will travel almost anywhere if flight and accomodations are covered.
I'm not too hot with computers. A bit of help please?
THE MOST IMPORTANT PART
If you are having any technical problems or are nervous, ASK A FRIEND. 50% of the first-world population knows how to download music and put it on an Ipod, and there is no substitute for having a friend/roommate/child there with you to show you how to properly download and enjoy the music.
Downloading the mixes
All of the mixes can be saved to your computer! If you don't have your computer set up properly, just clicking on a mix link might just start it playing in your browser or in an external music program. If you like that, cool.
But you should know that you can also save the mix on your computer. In Windows, just use the right mouse button to click on the link. There should be an option like "Save Link As..." or "Save Target As..." so choose the one that makes sense. It will then ask you to name it and where to save it. Leave the name, but I recommend just saving it to you desktop if you don't know where else to put it.
Getting mixes on to an Ipod/mp3 player
CPI mixes are perfect for the gym, road trips, long hikes and evading the authorities through the wilderness.
The first step is to download the mixes to your computer. Do you see them? Did you save them to your desktop?
If you use an Ipod, chances are you are using Itunes. Open Itunes, and click-and-drag the mixes in to Itunes, placing them wherever you want there.
Then just sync up your Ipod, and they should now be there.
Burning mixes to CDs
Most CD-burning software will let you burn an MP3 as an audio CD! It's true. Just start a new audio CD project, and drag-and-drop a mix in to it. Voila! The only issue is that CDs can't be longer than 80 minutes, so you won't be able to burn the longer mixes on the site. Alas...
Many newer cars have CD players that will read MP3 discs, so for those you can burn a number of mixes (600 MB!) to a single disc for hot in-car action.
Downloading the MP3 blogs
You can subscribe for the new updates via joining the facebook group, an RSS reader like Google Reader, checking the blog weekly, or just going straight to the list of files.
At the list of update files, download them by clicking on each one. Or, use a download manager for batch downloads of an entire month or year's worth. If you use Firefox, I recommend using the DownThemAll extension.
Filtering the MP3 blog entries
If you use a program like Itunes or something equivalent, drag all of the songs in to a new playlist. Then click on the "Genre" tab to sort by genres first. This will allow you to focus on genres of music in the blog that you are most interested in.
When you are pressed for time, just go for the styles you know you'll enjoy. Don't fret. You can go back for the others later.
What's this about buying books?
Oh this? My hope is that one day when a fan is feeling generous and they are perhaps a bit drunk at their computer, that they will buy me an art book from my Amazon.com wishlist.
I have a thing for art books. (Here's a photo of my collection, February 2010. We had recently moved and renovated, so things are a bit dusty.)
